Cover & Hyde On All Things Golf, Birdie Juice, & Swinger’s Club

Cover & Hyde On All Things Golf, Birdie Juice, & Swinger’s Club

Today we're taking another journey into our Local's Corner.

As you may know, the Bow Valley is known for its endless opportunities for sporting and recreation. From hiking to skiing, biking to climbing, this valley does have it all. One other area that this region is blessed in is golf. This corner of the province is home to an endless roster of jaw-dropping courses that deserve a spot on any golf-lovers bucket list.

Introducing Cover & Hyde

Summers in Alberta are short, so golfers across the province jam-pack their summers with as much of their beloved sport as possible. A couple of creative Albertans decided to take their passion to the next level, and Cover & Hyde was born. Cover & Hyde hand-makes small-batch leather goods right here in Alberta. Their expertly-made head covers are stylish and timeless all at once. Quality first, made with care – this beautiful leather work is truly one of a kind.

Beyond the head covers, Cover & Hyde has branched out to Birdie Juice Cases, Rangefinder Cases, and various other non-leather offerings like hats, shirts, and more. If you've hit a course near Canmore lately, you've seen their stuff, and you better get used to seeing Cover & Hyde around. We caught up with Jeremy Gordon to learn more about the boys and the story behind the brand.

The Story Behind Cover & Hyde

Jeremy told us that the team at Cover & Hyde is Kevin Jenken, Jeremy Gordon and Jonas Gordon. "Kev and I were living together in Calgary in 2019, and we were chatting about the golf scene in Alberta over a few beers. We kept coming back to how we thought there was room to add some more Albertan style to golf accessories and especially to club headcovers," he told us.

"We made a few (really shitty) prototypes in late 2019/early 2020 and then eventually progressed to what are our staple bison and cowhide leather headcovers that we sell today." Once they got their product dialled, they needed to think of a name. They were having trouble landing on one, and they credit their friend Jake for coming up with the name that stuck: Cover & Hyde.

The team launched their first-ever batch of driver and putter headcovers on social media in September 2020. At the time, they were selling mainly to their friends and family. Next up, their website dropped just before the holidays in 2022. So, it's been about two years of operation for the local business!

While Cover & Hyde has many fan-favourite products, Jeremy told us about the highest in demand. "Our Bison driver headcovers have been our staple product since day one, but last year we launched our birdie juice cases which are our personal favourite," he said. If you're curious what exactly "birdie juice" is, not to worry, he went on to explain.

"It's basically a leather holster for a mickey of booze that clips onto your golf bag for easy access to "birdie juice" (proper fashion to have a slug of whiskey if anyone in your group makes a birdie -- or if you just want some whiskey)."

If you're not much of a golfer but want to rep this local brand, you're in luck. "We do a graphic tee every year as well," he shared. "The summer '21 tee was one of our best sellers on the site last year, and we have some new stuff coming soon."

 Swinger's Club at Silvertip Resort

Cover & Hyde extends even further beyond their retail products. "Something we are really excited about is bringing back the "Swingers Club" this year. Together with Chris up at Silvertip, every Wednesday, we run a golf night called the Swinger's Club that includes a group lesson, a few beverages and a few holes of golf. We've been able to get people out to the golf course that don't normally golf. It's been super fun to show new and old friends the things we like about golf which all revolve around hanging out with friends, playing some golf, and having a few beers," said Jer.

If you want to follow along, check them out on Instagram and online.

"Som, Big Lou, and Pistol Pete are genuinely some of the best people we know, and we are pumped to be a small part of their awesome store that is going to be a great staple in Canmore," Jermey concluded.
